Lloyds Acoustics carry out large grout job at the University of Belfast

Lloyd Acoustics Ltd based in Belfast purchased a  CX 4/10 grout mixer/pump in December 2015 in preparation for a 324mm diameter ODEX drilling project at University of Ulster, York Street, Belfast.

This project required 74 No. ODEX boreholes to be drilled through upper soft alluvium soils known as “Belfast Sleech”, continuing through lenses of clays, silts and gravels until competent underlying sandstone at approx 25m. These boreholes had permanent casings drilled and left to the head of the sandstone and open hole drilling until the deeper design depths. The client preferred methodology for replacement in-fill was to tremmie base grout the boreholes from bottom ensuring boreholes were totally volumized with cementitious grout. This initially provided Lloyds with a concern, “How do we grout this many boreholes with this much grout in this time?  The client’s choice eliminated any outside supply concrete company batching and supplying us with delivery trucks!”
